Meet this month's feature artist, Nick Offer

I studied art in the UK (Edinburgh College of Art for a BA, Winchester School of Art for an MA). Thereafter I lived in Barcelona, Ghent and London before moving to Canberra 4 years ago.
I have generally divided my time between painting and other jobs (chef, teacher, illustrator and features writer among a very disparate selection) but currently paint full time.

'Landscape, Tidbinbilla' 2024. 180cm by 85cm. Oil paint, ink and toner on aluminium composite.
'The Control Room, The Space Tracking Station, Orroral Valley' 2024. 120cm by 84cm. Oil paint and ink on aluminium composite.
'Frontier' 2024. 100cm by 90cm. Oil paint and ink on aluminium composit.

Tell us a little bit about your work

I paint landscapes, portraits and figurative works. Often my approach to these involves mixed media. The figurative works are usually based on collages. The collages are assemblies of disparate imagery which I find for the most part on the internet. My aim is to find an unexpected link between figures and their environments (and/or each other). The landscapes and portraits involve a more direct approach with the subject and are often painted from life.
