I am primarily a figurative artist though recently I have begun to explore still-life painting. I am fascinated by the human form and face and try to combine abstraction and realism to create interesting juxtapositions of shape and colour that reflect mood and environment. I am an expressive figurative artist who enjoys creating artworks that tell a story. Rather than merely capturing a likeness of my subject, I want to convey their personality, and emotions, and connect the audience to them. For my portraits, I have been a finalist in a range of art competitions. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Textiles and Printmaking. My work includes prints, original drawings, and paintings. MEET THIS MONTH’S FEATURE ARTIST, Kalara Gilbert

Kalara Gilbert is a Wiradjuri artist currently based in Canberra. Painter, woodworker and pencil artist, Kalara enjoys all forms of art. Her colourful paintings pay homage to Country and she views her art as a way of being silent and waiting for creation to speak. A way of sharing culture with others and through this it enables her to paint spirit back onto Country.
