Cliff

I am an expressive figurative artist who enjoys creating artworks that tell a story. Rather than merely capturing a likeness of my subject, I want to convey their personality, and emotions, and connect the audience to them. For my portraits, I have been a finalist in a range of art competitions. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Textiles and Printmaking. My work includes prints, original drawings, and paintings. My previous business, FramebyFrame Canberra, operated successfully for ten years before opening Frame by Frame 1 Art Studio. Feel free to contact me on this website if you have any questions about my work.

I am primarily a figurative artist though recently I have begun to explore still-life painting. I am fascinated by the human form and face and try to combine abstraction and realism to create interesting juxtapositions of shape and colour that reflect mood and environment. I am always experimenting and taking risks, which makes painting interesting and fun for me and hopefully for the viewer as well. I am open to commissions, please see contact details on this website.

Rick Cochrane

MEET THIS MONTH’S FEATURE ARTIST, RICK COCHRANE

Oil painter, sculptor, printmaker, charcoal life and landscape drawer. For the last 19 years I have run a weekly life drawing session at Canberra Art Workshop where I also teach oil painting.

For those wanting one on one coaching I can run individual sessions in my straw bale studio in Weston ACT.

Currently I am working on a major body of work, making paintings of the Murrumbidgee River and the associated nature, influences and meaning for both first nations and european society. I intend exhibiting this body of work late 2024 along with an accompanying self-published journal on the narratives behind the paintings, history and environmental consequences.

Each month (or thereabouts), we have a local artist featured on our website. We love sharing all sorts of art and creations with our community. To view previously featured artist profiles, click the button below.
